Rem 1100's...on sale again

I see Wal-Mart has the Rem 1100 on sale for $328 again. There was a thread regarding this a while back. These are synthetic/matte models with 28' VR barrels and one mod Remchoke.

Did anyone buy one of these? Were you happy with it? I am tempted, but I have one nice O/U shotgun now...what to do?

The feedback I've gotten has been all positive.

I wonder if these are leftovers, or more new inventory....

All I have seen have been 12's, I'll double-check. If there are any twenties available, I'll post it here.

The last thim these things were posted about, I immediately called the 2 local stores and another store in PA that my sister-in-law works at and nobody had any (1 local associate could only answer "Huh?").

I'd really like to know where these things are.

The one that I located is here in North Carolina. However, when I went back to Wal-Mart, the only gun they had at the $328 price was the display model, which had slight shop wear. I may see if the manager will reduce it more (I doubt it).

I have tried three other Wal-Marts here in NC, but none of them have this model of 1100 in stock.

ASK JEFFET

I bought the display Beretta 390 and the manager reduced the price from $530 to $450. I wouldn't hesitate to buy that display 1100 for $328.

Harry;

I wouldn't hesitate to buy a Beretta 390 at $450 either. In fact, I would buy it over the 1100 at $328. If it is still there tomorrow, I may try to make a deal...

The $328 1100 is still there. I looked at it today. But as usual, there was no one who was willing to help me. I also couldn't locate a manager to try to work down the price.

I can't seem to make the move to purchase the gun. I have a lovely Athena, and I can't seem to find an excuse to buy the 1100...

Get a manager...

I have one of the Wal-Mart 1100s I got for $328. Definitely worth the price. I used it for some skeet shooting as well as two dove hunts this past fall. Functions reliably and is a pleasure to shoot. If the display is showing wear, get ahold of that manager and talk him down to $300 or better. Then take that 1100 home, clean it up, and shoot it often. Once it's gone, it's gone. As you can see, others here can't locate these bargains.

same gun in 12 ga was $369 or so, at my local wally world.
did see the Daly auto in 20 ga for $299.
anyone shot the Daly auto?

I succumbed tonight and bought the $328 1100 at Wal-Mart...what an experience! No one had a clue how to proceed with the transaction. I informed them that because I had a CCW permit, a NICS was not necessary. All I got were blank stares. I made it clear that if there were some kind of BS delay on the NICS, forget the sale. A manager had to review the FF4470 (or whatever # it is) in between searching for a particular color of eyeliner for another department.

NICS went through fine. But then I had to show them how to remove their trigger lock. Then I had to take the gun apart for them so it would fit in the box. One sales associate suggested a rusty pair of pliers when the magazine cap hesitated a bit. I think I hurt his feelings when I wouldn't let him near the gun.

After payment, I had to be escorted out the front door by the manager and the assistant manager, while they carried the box. The entire transaction took over one and one half hours. I have heard that a couple of years ago, a Wal-Mart customer once started shooting his gun before he left the store. After tonight's experience, I can see why.

Nevertheless, the gun really is quite nice. Has nice feel and balance, and seems to be well made. It seems to be alot of gun for the money, especially considering it is over $200 less than a Glock 19. I hope it shoots ok.

I still am trying to justify this purchase in light of my Weatherby Athena. Any help would be appreciated.

By the way, my girlfriend was with me and liked the gun...until I told her this would cut into my expenditure for the diamond I have promised her...

Fired the 1100 today (Shooting a shotgun is a Thanksgiving Tradition for me). Functioned flawlessly, with very little recoil...I can see why 1100's have been so popular.

But now I have to sell a gun (personal rule)...probably my Manurhin PP .32...

Jeffet,

Dude, you are brave giving the girlfriend the news when a gun was nearby.

As far as your Wal-Mart experience, that's sounds about right. Not a lot of employees know much about sale policies, let alone firearms. No background check with a CCW? Not here. They run a check every time you buy a firearm. I don't think FBI credentials would help.

Take solace in the fact that my 1100 purchase took almost three hours. First, I had to get it out of layaway to eyeball it one more time before I paid. (I'd had it on 90-day layaway on the off chance the price would go down even further. It didn't.) Getting the shotgun from layaway to sporting goods seemed to take an act of Congress. Then, once I'd checked out the gun, it had to go BACK to layaway until the background check came through so I could claim the gun. No idea why. The check took almost two hours because the "system was so full." Odd that almost every other firearm I've purchased took all of 5-10 minutes for the background check. My wife and I went to eat and then came back. Once I got the 1100, I was escorted out like you. That seems to be store policy everywhere.

Still, it was worth the hassle at that price. Congratulations on the new purchase!

Shoot it often and well. It should last you a lifetime. About the only thing that takes down an 1100 is a faulty or worn O-ring, and this problem crops up only once in a blue moon. Some people report years and years of use without replacing it. Still, you can pick up a spare or two at most gun shops for $3-$4 apiece. Put them with your chokes, and you're set for anything.

O-rings. An 870 ain't got no stinking O-rings :) Otherwise, I like the 1100 just fine.

I shredded the O-ring on my Wal-Mart 1100 taking it off over the razor-sharp threads. It just wasn't big enough. When I went to the gun store to buy 2, the guy looked at me funny and said "Just two?" Figuring he knew more about it than I did, I splurged and bought 3.

It turned out that the ones from the gunstore were a much better fit. They were also a metallic color and not flat black like the one that came on the gun.

I lucked out the day I bought my 1100. The man working the gun counter was the department manager and had been there six years. He quickly found the gun on the computer, found it in the back, found the sale price and then did the paperwork. Other than waiting a few minutes for someone to come and countersign the paperwork(or something or other), everything went smoothly. Even the walkout was fast - he was going to lunch.

I own a slew of 1100's and love them all...(okay, not necessarily a whole slew, but a half dozen isn't too bad a start). All are the fancy one's with the engraving and nice wooden stocks. Am very interested in the synthetic one. Haven't even seen the synthetic version in any of my Wally Worlds. I do have the charles daly in synthetic....good gun and good price, but if I can pick up the 1100 for just a little more, may have to grab another one. That'll make the wife smile lots!! Also have the synthetic version of the Verona 12ga in 3". What a great gun for the money. For a little over $350 you get 4 (count 'em - 4) choke tubes, a nifty magazine cutoff for fast change outs and it's very light weight. It'll shoot anything in the 2 3/4 and 3 inch range even intermixed. Pretty slick. A friend of mine let me shoot his verona over and under and it was nice, so the auto seemed like a pretty safe purchase. Took it duck hunting today and it ran flawlessly. I won't comment on how many ducks we took home, but ran the gun through 3 boxes of shells without a hitch (in the rain no less). In fact, lets blame the low duck count on the weather instead of my shooting:rolleyes:

Guyon et al;

Thanks for the info on the O-rings. I'll try to avoid shredding it, but I will perhaps grab a few next chance I have.

I am justifying this purchase by convincing myself that I can toss this shotgun in a case in the back of my SUV, hike out in the dampness, lay it in the wet grass while I eat, and shoot it a heck of a lot. I must admit I love that gas action (low recoil!). I don't think I would do that with my Athena. I just hope my Athena doesn't get dusty in the safe.

When my girl and I head for the mountains during huntin' season, I'll also toss it in the back...you never know when you might spot a nice field and permission to walk through it.

Anyway, the justifications continue...along with the guilt.
