Rem 1100 trigger problem

Hi all. I have a 79 Rem 1100 that I bought last year. Only shot it 1 time and ran 100 flawless rounds through it. Was a thing of beauty. So I took it home and field stripped it according to the manual and pics, cleaned it and put it back together I thought correctly. That was months ago. I just picked it up and attempted to dry fire it after cycling the bolt and the trigger won't activate the hammer unless I hold the gun in an almost vertical position. Seems like it is sticking on something or something is blocking its full travel. Is this ever common? A problem? Or did I just reinstall the trigger group incorrectly? I am a total amateur at smithing beyond cleaning so any help is appreciated. I took my time and felt I did it all correctly.

I f you can't figure it out. Give Remington a call, they have great customer service and should repair it free of charge.

Ok I am going to have a look at the dis connector. That makes sense I think. Do I have completely strip the weapon or can I just pop the pins out to remove the trigger group? Thanks all.

The only way the disconnector would be bent would be if you forced the trigger group back into the receiver . It's that bar that faces forward on the front of the left side for the trigger group , looks like a hammer head with a slot in it . If you bend it , it can bind and not allow the trigger to reset .

Let me see if I've got things right . It worked before you took it apart , and now it doesn't ? Something got misplaced and I can't tell what it is from here ! Sorry .

Yep, that's pretty much the story OldSap. I still ask, do I have to completely strip to get the trigger group out or can I just pop the pins without stripping it to remove? Thanks.

Just push the 2 pins out and you should be good to go . Did you give it a good hosing with brake cleaner or anything . Some times old lube can harden and create problems .

I did spray it out out Break Free Powder Blast, but did properly oil everything. It wasn't very dirty at all the first time. I just took the assy out and gave it a very good look over. Nothing looks bent or out of line according to the pics I have seen online and in the manual. I put it back together and I thought I had is solved until about the 10th dry fire and then it hung again. Seems to be dependent on 'how' the trigger is pulled. So I pulled it out again, looked things over, reinstalled and now it won't fire at all. Off to the smith I guess damn it.

For those still interested:

Just got it back from the Smith. They replaced the carrier. The Smith that actually fixed it wasn't there to tell me what caused the problem. At this point I don't have an idea. Do they simply wear out, or could I have messed it up during cleaning? Thanks.

Everything wears out ! If your 1100 once wore a Skeet barrell ( as alot of them did ) it could have had a Million rounds through it ! Glad you got her fixed , they are a great shotgun !

OldSap, it has a 28" mod on it, but I ironically I have been thinking of getting a skeet barrel for it. And yes I love it. Fit, finish, beauty, and low recoil make it just wonderful to me. It may have been used for skeet, who knows as it is a 1979, but has nary a scratch or blemish anywhere. Looks almost new which is why i got it in the first place.
