I bought a Savage 111 a month ago and have been loading "test rounds" for it since that time. With the warm weather in Ohio rolling in yesterday, I went to the range and tested them out. Here was what shot best in my rifle:
Winchester Case
WLR Primer
Nosler Accubond 130 Grain
57 Grains of H-4831
COAL at 3.320"
I don't have a chronograph, so I am unable to give muzzle velocities.
I didn't load anything with more than 57 grains of powder, but I will increase to 57.5 and then 58.0 to see if there's a noticeable difference in performance. I will say that the rounds that contained less powder charge (55 and 56 grains were my other loads) were not as tight on paper. I DID notice that the rounds I crimped using the Lee Factory Crimp Die did not group as well as those with no crimp. Soooooo, I won't be crimping any more.
I will be using the rounds exclusively for hunting, and am thinking these will work just fine.
