I have been playing around with loading for my SR-25, and have ended up (at this moment), using 42.5 gr of IMR4895 with a Moly coated Sierra 168 gr JHP. My test groups show consistent MOA, have yet to chrono, but will do that soon and tweak to 2600 fps.

My question is, while I know that bullet seating depth is critical for fine acuracy, just backing off the lans and groves in a bolt gun, this cannot be done in the SR-25 due to the magazine. OAL 2.8 is the max for the mag, I seat to 2.7. I would like to try for 1/2 MOA, any suggestion?

P.S. I just bought 8 pounds of 4895, so am not inclined to experiment any more with powders.

I am not an expert.

I would imagine seating your bullets to 2.8" would be a help. I seat all of my match loads to 2.8" since I use them in the M1A and the Rem 700. I think the hottest I went on 4895 with the 168's was 42 or 43 grains, I don't ahve my data on me and have since switched to 4064. Good luck.

Accuracy-wise, my SR25 preferred H380. It was close to half minute of angle with 46gr and a 168gr Matchking. The only problem was the constant malfunctions. Not that those were confined to handloads with H380. I used some 4895, but by then I was so fed up with the gun I traded it for a SR9T (which is still sub MOA and actually can work it's way through a magazine without choking).

I realize this isn't a big help. But there it is.

When I first got my SR-25, I too had malfuncitons. Traced it back to the magazines, not the loads or receiver. Sent all three mags back to KNight for replacement. Since then, has been very reliable.

I am stuck with the 4895 due to having 8 pounds of it now.

Marty, no big deal, but in the future, post in the appropriate forum and wait a day or two before cross-posting if there is a lack of response. Okay?

I'll close this thread; any other responses should be posted in the Handloading And Reloading Forum.
