reloading for colt 38 spl.

Hi all, been some time -but here goes, this is for a 5" colt six shooter. want to reload 38 spl for about 900 fps. I was thinking 5.2 grs unique for 148gr wc. i was thinking this load would get me very close to 900 fps. any thoughts on this load ? any help would be great. thanks. H.B.

What kind of Colt six shooter?

That is a lot of powder for a wadcutter which seats deep and doesn't leave much "combustion chamber."

It is a lot too much if the wadcutter has a hollow base.

Do you have a manual that gives that load?

(I did not see your duplicate post under handloading.)

Have you checked out the recommended recipes on the Alliant Powder website?

I think it should be in the ballpark of 900fps. Starting 10% lower than your final desired load is always good practice. That would be 5.1grains and work up from there.

Sorry, alex but I do not see anything about a heavy load of Unique with a wadcutter at that link.
