A newbe here, but I can see there are plenty here who know plenty.
I have the Bushmaster .308 carbine. I'm using a Dillon 650, and plenty of Lake City brass ( is it all mil spec.?) also T Z brass out of Israel.(all once fired out of my own gun) Picked up Winchester 748 ball powder today and some Hornady 168 HPBT to fill those empties. Now I can't find a reliable formula. Any hints?
I made up a few @ 42 grain and an OAL of 2.78 and will test fire tomorrow.
I'm a tad new at this, but have tried to do my homework.

And one more thing. What's up with this Bushy breaking extractors? I just installed my 3RD one.

Thanks.

42gr of 748 in LC cases with a 168gr SMK should be a safe starting point. I think you'll find accuracy around 43gr, but that's just a guess.

You can read through an older thread at THR if you want:http://www.thehighroad.org/archive/index.php/t-229275.html

As far as broken extractors, it's a sign of the rifle being over gassed. An adjustable gas block is the best fix, but sometimes a heavier buffer assembly will address the symptoms.

Just FYI, Hodgdon lists max charge for 150 and 180gr hunting bullets for Win748 from Winchester cases.

Max 150=48.5gr
Max 180=46.5gr

Extrapolating between the two should give you a 165gr max of 47.5gr. Dropping 10% gives you 42.8gr starting charge.

In my experience LC brass does have less internal volume than Winchester brand brass so knocking off a grain at each end isn't a bad place to start.
