At the field, a notebook (pencil, paper) works fine to 'log' the velocities over a chronograph plus any notes. Then come home and do the final analysis. I have a spreadsheet to enter the velocities which auto calculates min/max/SD/ES. Finally I enter the results into final spreadsheet which simply stores the load, bullet, primer, AVG velocity, SD, ES, number of shots, barrel length, and a note per row. Can't get much simpler.
Remember SD isn't really statistically valid unless you shoot 10+ rounds per load.
Example of a .44Special load:
8.0g CFE Pistol, 240g SWC, CCI-300, 1008, 6, 20, 15, 5 1/2”, Accurate+
