reloading .223

Am curious to know if anyone reloads .223 and if so do you reload for 1. cost or 2. accuracy?

I reload all of my pistol calibers but have not done the .223 or 7.62x39 as they seem so cheap as it is.

Thanks for the information.

I have reloaded 223 for many years. I started out to save money, but with the cheap ammo prices now available it is no longer worth it. Now I only load match ammo for high accuracy.

Both. Sure I can't load .223 for cost if we're talking M193 ball, but if we start talking about 60gr. Vmax varmint ammo or 64gr Winchester powerpoints, I can rack up some real savings.

Poodleshooter - This is pretty much what I was wondering. My shooting will only be for plinking from 50 to 200 meters. Any self defense applications don't need match ammo. My use for the AR is not to put 5 shots in a 2" group at 200 meters. I want to be able to hit a torso at that range so probably the military ball ammo will be fine for me.

Thanks,

I reload most of my .223 practice ammo. It is for defensive style practice so I don't care if it will group sub MOA (but it's gotta be close!) All my carry ammo is factory built. My #1 reason for this is cost.

I spent some time experimenting with different reloading components making sure my practice ammo has a near identical point of impact and feels close to the same as what I actually carry - just something else to consider, but not all that important IMO. I also spend some time paracticing with a Ciener .22lr conversion kit in place. The more time spent on the range, the better I Like it!

I reload because it's fun. It used to be cheaper with the 223 but now ya can get super cheap stuff anywhere. Now I reload because if the better half thinks that I'm saving a bundle she won't bother me when I dissapear into the gun room for hours!!!!!!

Both. Fast twist barrels like mine wear very quickly, so I don't waste my barrel with surplus stuff. My AR only gets shot for load development, practice, and competition...no plinking. I coudn't afford to shoot factory made match grade ammo for practice and a match or two every month...I reload my own match grade for 1/3 the cost. If I had another AR and I was jsut plinking, however, the surplus would win out.
