Reliable 10-rnd mags for Mini-14?

Any recommendations and/or sources?

I wish I could have greater capacity mags, but I live in California.

Followup question to SpyGuy's:

Anyone know what's the maximum rifle magazine capacity in Washington State? Also 10? None?
I see there are 5, 10 and 30rd magazines available for the Mini-14 but are those 10+ rd magazines pre-ban, like they are for handguns? Any restrictions on 10+rd magazines for rifles in WA state?
Thanks!

are those 10+ rd magazines pre-ban
If I'm not mistaken, the 10-rnd max limitation is an (unconstitutional) federal restriction. Therefore, ANY magazine with greater than 10-rnd capacity MUST be pre-ban or else, it's illegal.

I have heard that the 10 rounders at http://www.johnmasen.com/
are pretty good. I called them a few months ago and they told me that they had been having problems with the manufacturing process of the mags and that they were temporarily unavailable. I liked what that said about their philosophy on quality. I just went by their web sight and they show 10 rounders on the mini-14 accessories page. I think I will order a few. $16 each, but I am afraid of buggering up my mags and eventually ending up with a single shot .223 that doesn't group for beans ... if I wanted a single shot I'd've bought a Tikka!

I'd like to hear from anyone who has tried these mags.

Good luck,
Saands

Sorry Saands, but I don't understand that statement. Could you please clarify how aftermarket mags can "bugger up your mags" and make your rifle into a single-shot?

I have several John Mason Mags and they work flawlessly. They are made really well. The only thing I would do to improve them would be to use a welded catch rather than a stamped one.

Sorry ... I wasn't clear at all ... My fear is that, living in the wonderfully sunny state of California, they will soon outlaw the purchase of ANY magazine. Then I will have a semi-auto with a limited supply of mags which will eventually lead to having a semi-auto with NO functioning mags. There was no connection between aftermarket mags and not having a functioning rifle ... on the contrary, if I can find a RELIABLE aftermarket mag, then I can stock up now and be set for the long run. There was an unstated dissatisfaction with most of the aftermarket mags that I have purchased in the past.

When did you get it? I don't want to waste my money on a problem that hasn't been fixed.

Thanks,
Saands

The old masens were very reliable. The new ones (after retooling)should be just as good. They are very good people, and will gladly refund your money if you have a problem.

Sands - Got it new only a month or so ago. Send me $4.00 postage and I will mail it to you free! I have since bought some PMI 30 rounders that work great. Of course if you are in Kali that does you no good.

Masen

I spoke with Masen 2 weeks ago, they did not have any 10 rd for sale, they were still getting stock up or testing the stuff that wsa jsut made. the lady I spoke with said to check back in a couple weeks. i can say they were sturdy, but the follower would not support the front of the cartridge. these came from the bad lot that they had.
