Reflex on AR15 using carry handle mount

8200 rpm

Has anyone mounted the Trijicon Reflex sight on their AR15 using the forward carry handle mount (RX-10)?

1) Can you use the Reflex without looking thru the iron sights?
2) How sturdy is the mount? Does it loosen after a few hundred rounds?

To answer your questions, Yes you can use it without looking through the irons. When I bring the rifle up to my shoulder and touch my cheek to the stock I am looking over the rear sight right through the Reflex. If I want to use the irons then I use a proper, firm cheek weld and I'm looking right through the irons.

The RX-10 mount is very sturdy, it hasn't loosened up on me in more than 1800 rounds. After you sight in the Reflex, note the position of the dot in your iron sight picture using the small peep. Anytime you want to verify the zero of your Reflex, look through the irons, again using the small peep and same sight setting as before, and see if the dot is in the same position as when first noted.

I also have the reflex with handle mount on my AR. I love it. It works great, is easy to sightin, and you can even take it off and then put it back on and it will not have to be sighted back in.

That is one sweet rifle!

How does it handle compared to 16" heavy barrel?

My Bushmaster Dissapator Carbine seems to be muzzle heavy. I'm planning on installing a 16" M4-gery light-weight barrel to save about a pound off the front end. Think it's worth it?

Thanks for the reply.

Thanks for the kind words about my rifle 8200 rpm. With a full 30 round mag it weighs 6.5lbs!

Personally I love a light barrel. Heavy barrels are good on target rifles(heavy in the front is more stable for offhand shooting) and sustained fire full auto weapons, but they hurt the balance of the weapon, making it tiresome to carry all day, and they are slower in a CQB environment.

I have run through 300 rounds as fast as I could load, get the sights on target and pull the trigger. I had to wear Nomex gloves just to hold on to the handguard (I wear these anyway, been burned by many an AK, AR and FAL!), but the point of impact did not shift dramatically enough to cause any rounds to miss a 1/2 size torso target at 100m. I am sold on light barrels for semi-auto fighting rifles.
