Reflections on a new S & W 386

Bought a NIB S & W 386 yesterday and tried it out. The 386 is a Titanium Scandium combo in 38/38 +P/and 357 mag. It has a 3.25" barrel, is a 7-shooter and has a listed weight of 18.5 ounces. It is light! Tried it out with all of the aformentioned ammo types and all were in the 125 to 130 grain range. All were shot at 7 yards and all pretty much shot to POA for both my son-in-law and for me as well.

Of course recoil was a very big issue of concern! Had read and heard so much about the recoil of the TiScan revolvers that I was somewhat concerned. In both the 38 spcl. and "+P" versions recoil was surprisingly mild and the 386 was manageable with not too much muzzle flip. I was much surprised by its peformance in .357! I would not want to kid anybody and say that the recoil was a "pussy cat" but it really was not that bad for either my son-in-law or me. It did not hurt to shoot, muzzle flip was there as expected but not impossible, and both of us were much pleased with the gun's performance. I realize that recoil, like beauty, is often in the perception of the beholder. But, for both of us, it was nowhere near as opressive or scary as we feared. It cost $589.00 NIB and, so far, I am quite pleased and impressed. FWIW and good shooting:)

S&W 386? What's it running at, 38 Mhz? I upgraded mine to a S&W Pentium III 3 years ago, kinda obsolete by now but that SCSI HDD at 10,000 rpm keeps it running swift...

what dairycreek said

sure, it has some punch but it's more like a 'whack... NOT like a S&W .44 Mountain Gun which is more like a W H O O P ! and jump back jack....dewey

Now is that not one of the best guns you have ever owned?
I think it is one of the best guns I have ever owned!
The only difference is I have the 386PD. ;)

I have owned a lot of guns in my time but I must agree that I am as excited by the performance of the 386 as anything in a long, long time! I've been carrying it concealed in a FIST Model 1 IWB clip holster and it is so light and confortable that I can't see myself changing to anything else. I am really pleased so far. Good shooting:)

I love mine, groups great and not the recoil issue as i've heard. Its my daily carry gun now. Great gun:

I hope you are looking on this BB. Here is two other (Experienced) shooters that like and can handle with no problem the S&W Scandium/Titanium model-386 .357MAG. ;)
