Refinishing wood stock

I read in Rifle Shooter Magazine a way to refinish a stock (wood or synthetic) is to sand it aggressively and then use "trunk spray paint" similar to Fleck stone paint, to give a textured black-gray finish. I have a cheap Win 670 with a el cheapo stock and I was considering trying this on this stock and wanted to know if anyone has tried this?

Roboref, I get asked to finish stocks this way a few times every year. I like the Wrinkle Paint sold by Brownells for this but I think the trunk paint would work just as well. George
