Im attempting to re-blue my old winchester pump shotgun because of rust and corrosion. Just to see if i could succesfully blue the gun i tried it out on a small area of the barrel. First i cleaned the area with degreaser, rubbed it with fine steel wool, used a blue and rust remover(which worked), then finally applied the blue-let it sit for 3 min.-rinsed it off with water-let it air dry!!and im not SURE if this is SUPPOSED to happen but it rusted over-BUT THEN after scrubbing with steel wool it looked good but it didnt have the dark black original color. I have since tried reapplying but didnt work. What are your methods on blueing and should i keep reapplying that stuff.

Truthfully, the "cold blue" solutions are, IIRC, copper sulfate and very splotchy and thin.

A better solution, if you want to do it yourself, is Brownells teflon coat. Bluing is pretty cost intensive for a single gun.

i when using a cold blue tend to wipe it on then off cold,no heating the barrel at all in hot water etc,i get better results by this way ,also with wiping on then off repeatedly
you can get a darker finish.a barrel should cost 40 or so to get a hot dip tank blue job usually.
