Refinishing an Official Police?

I have a Colt Official Police circa 1930’s. I know that the Official Police revolvers are plentiful and not particularly all that valuable, but to me this particular gun has some sentimental value; she’s in real need of some TLC. I’m looking for a smith that does a good job of rebluing older Colts.

Any suggestions?

To me, very few do good jobs, meaning that the refinished state is easily noticed. Ford's refinishing out of Florida is great. This job is not one for Turnbull restoration. There are a few other guys who do good work on revolvers, but I only ever had one revolver refinished, and I had the S&W factory do it.

Despite the sentimental value, I'm not sure if refinishing it is worth doing, but it sounds like you already made the choice. Be sure to find someone who doesn't make it look worse.

;) I'm quite sure you're right.......it's not worth it, but I have no intention of ever selling this revolver. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Another service that does it right is Glenrock. They have a top reputation in the industry for high end workmanship.

They're not taking any re-finishing work until August, and I don't know if they'll do a Colt that old, but it can't hurt to ask Colt if they'll do it.
That way you'd have a factory finish.

I contacted Colt about a year ago, they won't accept a revolver this old.

The fear is that if they accept the job and at some point during the process they find a defective or broken part, they can't send it back without repairing it. Because it was manufactured so long ago, no parts exist in inventory. As a manufacturer they are liable for ensuring that when a firearm leaves the factory it must be in full working order and pass a safety inspection.

You do realize that refinishing is a monetary loser. You spend a couple hundred dollars and the value may actually fall. If this does not matter to you, then Ford's does really nice work. I have not seen work by others mentioned so I can't comment. I have seen Ford's work and it is first class.

Sure...I know, but that's Okay with me. I have no plans of ever selling;)
