I am a new shooter and an incessant reader, so I am looking to read as much as possible in order to learn. Can you all point me to websites, books, other forums, etc that may be helpful? I am mainly interested in handguns at this point.

Thank you!

Please don't misunderstand. I agree this is a great forum, and I've learned a lot already. I am looking for additional references. I certainly didn't mean to offend anyone!

Don't think you have offended anybody but not knowing exactly what you are interested in makes suggestions rather hard.
The Illustrated Catalog of Handguns by David Miller is a fairly good general picture overview of hand guns from historic to modern. Elmer Keith, Jeff Cooper, and Massad Ayoob have all written good books on handguns and there use. So give us ideas of what you are interested in and I'm sure something will be suggested rather quickly.

The firearms field is wide and diverse. A little more info would be helpful.

Are you interested in know all about all the handguns? That is would you like to be able to discuss Colts and Rugers and Smith and Wessons? Would you like to know more about the ammunition? Like why there are so many different 9mm cartridges or why there is a big difference between shooting a 9mm and a 10mm? Why a .44 magnum shoots a .429 size bullet while a .45 Colt might shoot a .454 size bullet or why a .38 Special and a .357 Magnum can shoot the same bullet? Or are you interested in the semi-auto verses revolver debate?

Which would you be more interested in, ‘action’ type target shooting, bullseye target shooting or self defense shooting?

Are you interested in the history of guns? Just how did this mish mash of contradictory terms and arcane bits of information all come together?

Here’s a very good start and it’s free and on line:
http://www.corneredcat.com/

Also here’s a very interesting story about a woman that got interested in guns and hunting in her twenties having no hunting or firearms background at all: (It’s a very different, maybe even unique slant on hunting and firearms although more hunting and philosophy than guns.)

Are you interested in the guns?
Or how to use them?
Or both?
For the competition games, self defense, hunting, something else?
The designs?
Gun Smithing?
It's a huge field, please be more specific if you would like meaningful answers.

For an idea of how broad your question is, substitute "driver" for "shooter", and "passenger car" for "handguns" :

"I am a new driver and an incessant reader, so I am looking to read as much as possible in order to learn. Can you all point me to websites, books, other forums, etc that may be helpful? I am mainly interested in passenger cars at this point."

Thats a whole lot of readin' .....

Chuck Hawk's and Gunblast websites are pretty interesting. Pick up a Gun Digest for general info. Lists most of what is available in a given year.

Read anything by Elmer Keith & John Taffin, -- shoot often and shoot far. Practice is more expensive than excuses, but necessary if you are going to become proficient wit your handguns.
