well i have put a few hundrad rounds through my 870 now and have desided that i want a lighter trigger pull.. perhaps around 4 lbs.. is there a spring kit etc that i can get for my shotgun? or do i have to take it in to be smithed?

i really would prefer to do it myself..

Thanks

Very carefully polish ,with a fine stone, all the contact surfaces.Don't change angles or round off surfaces. This greatly reduced my Benelli pull.

The first step is to determine what the pull-weight is now. This is accomplished by the use of a pull-guage (available from Brownells and other gunsmith supply houses). Once you know this you can (very carefully) set it to the desired weight. For single-trigger guns the rule of thumb is that the pull-weight is set to one-half the weight of the gun: e.g., 3.5 lbs. for a 7 pounder.

Having said this, I do not recommend this as a do-it-yourself job for two reasons: safety and liability. My best advice is to leave this type of work to a competent gunsmith.

Good luck, and good shooting!

The easy method, is to replace the sear-trigger spring.

The 870 Police gun has an extra-strong spring, and some owners replace it with a spring from a Wingmaster to lighten the trigger

The problem is in finding a correct sized and power spring, if you're already using a standard Remington spring.

If in doubt, see a pro to have the trigger tuned.
