redhawk trigger

I recently purchased a 44 redhawk, the trigger on it seems heavy, and a long pull, don't know if it is the way it should be and I should just get used to it or have some work done on it This is my only da revolver, even if I shoot it like I would a sa revolver it is still a stiff trigger, I've put 300 rounds through it. Have a 45 Blackhawk no issues at all really like the gun.

Redhawk or Super Redhawk?

In the Redhawk the hammer spring and trigger spring are one and the same. The OEM spring has a rate that thas been measured somewhere between 17 and 20 lbs. Some have reported light strikes with a lighter spring, and Bowen recommends a heavier 30lb spring. I haven't had a problem with a Wolff 14lb in mine, and it's gotten a lot smoother, but it'll never match a good single action.

What about lock time?

I see a lot of posts and "kits" that improve the trigger by as they say clipping coils or replacing the hammer spring with a weaker spring. But at the same time they are trading lock time for trigger pull. Seems to me the faster lock time makes the gun easier to shoot accurately. An improved sear could offer a better trigger feel with out increasing lock time.

Thanks for the tips everyone it's hard to be consistent with the trigger pull the way it is, heavy and long, talked to a smith today suggested everything you guys did from polishing and de burring to the spring job the forum has always given me nothing but helpful info it is good to hear from people with first hand experienc thanks again

The grip has a lot to do with the effort it takes to pull the trigger.
A good grip can greatly reduce the muscle required.
Unfortunately, it's nearly impossible to figure out how from a forum.
Take a look at some of Jerry Miculek's videos on the subject.
Bet it will help a lot.
