Redhawk. How to remove the ejector star and cylinder from the crane?

I'm doing a deep clean and ideally I'd like to remove both the cylinder and ejector star from the crane to check all is clean.

How does one do it?

Search for "ruger redhawk exploded view schematic" and you should be able to figure it out

Personally, I'd just soak it in diesel fuel then blow it out with an air hose, or spray with carb cleaner rather than take it completely apart

Looks like that part of the gun is very similar to the Super Redhawk/GP100 design.

You can remove the cylinder from the crane without too much difficulty, but I would recommend not trying to remove the ejector star. It requires a special tool and attempting removal without the tool can bend the ejector rod (#3 in the diagram below) which is bad.

If you remove the cylinder from the crane, be very careful not to lose parts. There are some small parts and springs to deal with.

You'll need to depress part #28 in the diagram. It's in a hole in the crane. Push it down farther into its hole and you'll be able to remove part #30 in the diagram. Be careful not to lose part #29, the spring that tensions part #28

When you remove part #30, parts #22, 27, 32 & 31 will all come out of the front of the crane--. Be sure you know how they all go back together before taking things apart--referring to the diagram helps but you'll want to pay close attention to everything before you take it apart. Getting everything back together is a little fiddly. Helps to have an extra hand or two.

The video is pretty good, but parts #28 and #29 may come out when you do the disassembly and he doesn't show them coming out or going back in.

It all went smoothly except that revolvers don't do heavy coats of dry-lube!!

The valve on the can went wrong meaning that a light misting turning to a dousing. The trigger is actually pretty smooth but the crane is stiffer now. I will probably strip it again tomorrow and use a stiff-ish brush to rub the excess away and re-assemble.

I will also clean the unsightly lube runs on the outside. Aside from that it seems to have work as planned.
