Redhawk 44MAG Grips

Hello All.

I have been shooting my redhawk 44mag 7.5in for several years now and am getting to enjoy it more and more. (I started finding some lighter loads for just plinking) It still has factory grips on it, and I think its time to shop for some new ones. I have heard the pachmyr decelerator ones mentioned here a lot, is that the best grip for it?

Any advice would be appreciated!

I have them on my 5.5" Redhawk and they do an excellent job of "taming" the recoil. Remember that the Decelerators are a large grip and it takes a fairly large hand to hold one. Best of luck :)
 
five 5.5" Redhawks, all calibers, all Pachmayr

My hands aren't big; I wedge my fingers up into the grip, using the finger grooves (high grip, DA, IPSC, ay?) for a firm high grip.

Works either hand.

Really makes using them viable (at least for me -- them big nuclear heavies from the 44 and 45 versions get me twitching, though).

Pachmayr Decelerators; all my Rugers (5 'Hawks, two KGP's) wear them.

I did not think about the pachmyr being too big... I have a medium-large size hand.. do you guys think they would be too much? I dont have any gun shops around here in Wyoming that have them to really look at so I would be ordering them...

What is your favorite source?

The houge rubber grips are fine for your sized hands, mine are large/medium also. They also seem to run a bit cheaper than pachmyers. But both are quality grips.
 
Pachmayr Presentation grips

I bought my 7.5 inch Redhawk along with the Presentation grips. I have medium-large hands ands these grips are just right for fit and tame the recoil nicely.

Redhawk in 5 1/2 inch .44 Magnum Grips

I have had a 5.5 inch Stainless 44 Redhawk foor over 15 years.
Factory grips don't fit. Hogue grips don't fit. 2 Pachamyer grips don't fit MY HAND. It is very strange, because it's the gun I shoot best.
 
Redhawk 44 Magnum Grips

I own a Ruger Redhawk 7.5" 44 Magnum also that I will use to hunt deer with this season. It has the stock walnut grips which feel great in my hand but too slippery. I have viewed all the grips I found online and they appear to fill in the area behind the trigger guard with part of the rubber of the grip. I would like to have grips that are just like the stock walnut grips that came with the gun but in rubber or maybe even a checkered pair of wood grips. Does anyone have a suggestion or maybe even a pair for sale?

The two extra pairs of grips that I got with my Redhawk are both Pachmayr that have the rubber behind the guard like you describe. I don't know of anything else that is like what you're looking for other than the original grips.

Take this for what you will but I went a little overboard when I moved to Alaska and bought my first handgun in ruger SRH .454. I got pachmayer decel grips on it and I can shoot full house .454 casull rounds with it and it is extremely comfortable to shoot considering the amount recoil im dealing with. Stock Ruger grips IMO on a .454 were like getting hit in the hand with a sledgehammer, but with the pacmayer decels on it even a novice can shoot it with max loads, ask my wife! I would say that in a .44 SRH they will make your gun shoot like a dream.
 
Ruger Redhawk Grips

With a 44 mag I'm not worried about recoil, I actually enjoy it. I just like the dimensions of the stock grips with the frame as it is. I just need it to be grippier, I think I just made up a new word. That's why I were a lookin fer a slip on type rubber grip without finger grooves, like they sell for the autos, but one for a revolver. Maybe I'll just dip the whole grip frame in a cup of pine sap.
 
Houge makes the grips for the new srh alaskan, I would give them a call or call ruger. They are called the tamer grips, rubber, very comfortable, and they make a 454 out of a 2" barrell so it doesnt hurt.
 
I have a 5.5" redhawk that I just changed the grips out of last night... Got a Hogue wood monogrip with finger grooves.

Infinitely better! That space between the trigger guard and the factory grips was brutal to me and this fills in the space nicely, but still leaves my hand in the right place for working the hammer and trigger.

Also, is a definite improvement on 2-handed shooting.

I have yet to go out to the range and shoot it. I will probably do so this weekend. I expect it will be worlds better, just judging based on knowing what pinches or gets hit hard by recoil on the old grips. It's always my middle finger knuckle that makes me put the redhawk down after about 30 rounds, and now he's safely out of the way... Looks like I need more ammo :D
 
I also have a 5.5" Redhawk, and have large hands.

I don't like the Hogue Monogrip due to the stirrup attachment on the bottom.
I do not like the Pachmyar Presentation grips - they are too big at the bottom.

I use the Pachmyar Decellerator, and love them.

I just got the hogue grips...

I really appreciate all your advice! I found a set of hogue grips for my redhawk and put them on this weekend... they seem to feel ok, but I have not had a chance to go out and shoot it yet. I will let you know! They do feel like an improvement over the stock grips I have had for 10yrs now!

I dont rush into anything!
 
I've shot my redhawk now with the hogue wood grips.

Major improvement over the old grips. It's amazing how much better a person can shoot when they aren't involuntarily flinching away from a source of pain or irritation.

That empty space behind the trigger guard had declared war on my middle finger's knuckles. It has since been completely filled in by the Hogue grip's design, changing the way I handle the gun when firing.

So much better...
