redfield scope question?

Anyone familiar with the older redfield 5-star scopes?
I picked up a used 6-18x and put it on my remington sendero .300 ultra mag.
This scope has the Accu-trak(spelling?) rangefinder/bullet drop compensator system.
When trying to sight it in I used up all of the UP adjustment in the scope and the gun is still shooting about 5-6" low at 100 yds.
I did take off the cap on the top turret that is used for the bullet drop adjustment to get down to the main adjuster.
Is there something else I should be doing or is this scope just junk?
Sorry for being so long winded.
Joe

JP. What type of mount are you using. I have a five star 4x12 and haven't had any elevation problems with it.
You might have to put a shim under the rear mount to raise it up some.
Accu-trak scopes should be sigthed in dead on at 200 yards for the bullet drop compensator to work properly, and you should also have the right insert for your load.
If the shim idea doesn't work, then I don't have any other ideas. FWIW though, the Redfield Five Star was the top of the line Redfiels, and they are not junk.
If your mount is a two piece, make a shim from an old credit card, or buy some shim brass at a hardware store. I think you can do it with a one piece base as well. Something with a thickness of a credit card should give you enough elevation so that you can resight in at 100 yards, then adjust to be on at 200. Then, if you have a range with enough distance, you can check out the compensator at the longer distances. That part may not be quite on if you have the wrong insert, and even if you have what would be right for a standard 300 Win or Wby., the Ultra Mag is a bit flatter shooting, and so again, it may not be quite on. You might be able to compensate for that, but I'm not quite sure on that point.
Hope this helps you out some.

I am using leupold 2 piece bases.
The thing that has me puzzled is the scope up/down adjustment will only turn 3 full turns from stop to stop.
I checked a Simmons scope of mine and the thing turns 9 turns.
It doesn't seem right.
Almost like somethings stopping it from turning any farther.
In my opinion I would think there should be a bit more adjustment than that.
Thanks for the help
Joe
