Redfield Mount Adjustments?

Hi Folks!

I've acquired a Browning BAR with a Redfield base like the one shown here:

What is the purpose of the two rear screws (the bottom screws in this image)? Windage adjustment? If yes, then is there also some elevation adjustment?

The rear screws hold the rear ring in the base. They also allow for some windage adjustment by backing one off and tightening the other. There is no elevation adjustment in a Redfield base.

Dear Shooter:
Yes, it is for adjusting a poor mounting job - generally.
If your holes are drilled and tapped slightly off center it can re-align the scope - BUT, - the scope must be clamped in the bases, bore sighted WITHOUT THE REAR SCREWS TIGHTENED, and then the rear screws brought up tight on each side and tightened - you CANNOT adjust windage by using the screws to MOVE the scope!

And I know Jim didn"t mean to do that!
