redesign?

just a thought...was looking at one of the conservative blogs with a list of all the firearms feinstein would ban or force onto the NFA registry system...and wondered if some entrepreneur with a bit of engineering/gunsmithing savvy could redesign the AR lower a bit...perhaps just use pistol grip location
for parts/cleaning kit stowage and rework stock and forearm a bit and remove the "offending" aspects...I knmow would not make difference for clinton magazines, but could preserve a lot of what is now owned perhaps...

also. couldn't a person design a magazine that in a pinch could be enlarged?
say the box portion is built with tabs of a sort that connect together and the spring is designed so that it could connect to another spring. lwful in itself...but if the law changed again later or if the world went all zombie and suddenly concern for hi-capacity got seriously important...then, these things could be refigured and made 20 rounders let's say???

I imagine having any built-in capability for modification will be seen as conspiratorial by some and all of that, but still...wouldn't something long these lines we a viable idea?
OR..do such things already exist? if so, where I wonder?

Your idea would work in theory but even semi's that do not have the pistol type grip, or look "evil" might be on the chopping block. As example the Mini 14. A lot has happened since the last AWB and the liberals won't make the same mistakes this time around. Same thing with magazines. The word "permanant" will be used as to the round capacity this time around.

Why are you giving up? Thats the problem.
We dont need to redesign anything.
We need to start standing up and taking back this country.

If there is a real ban of "asault rifles" I would expect to see the lower altered so that it has a fixed 10 round mag. If you simply make the casting a little bit thicker inside the mag well it would no longer be able to accept a regular magazine. Add a hinged lower plate with the spring, throat assembley and follower and you have a top loader only rifle. Without a fast change mag the AR-15 is just a target/varmit rifle of limited use.
On the AK type rifles it would be even easier, just weld a 10 round mag in place.
Question is: Would all exsisting AK and AR rifles become class three weapons?
Sure, you would be grandfathered in BUT still subect to review before you get your tax stamp. Undeclared weapons would then become contraband. You could keep it but never be able to use it or sell it. It's value would be parts only.

Pretty much all of what you have suggested already exists.

One of many pistol grip alternatives

Blocked magazines in a full size mag body.

Devices that turn detachable magazines into fixed magazines.

California/1994AWB already caused these things to exist.

A lot has happened since the last AWB and the liberals won't make the same mistakes this time around.

The above is important to note. Feinstein's new bill makes it harder to work around the features issue, and internally in CA they're already trying to rework the laws so bullet buttons aren't considered fixed magazines anymore.

It seems a little premature to discuss skirting a proposed law before we even know what the proposed law is.

Designing a magazine that could be enlarged in a pinch sounds like breaking an AWB law IF one is passed. Not something to be discussed here.

Better to spend your time trying to prevent such a law.

Also, the lesson of the past AWB was taken to hurt. This one IF passed will be more than cosmetic.

Anybody have anything else to say - hate to close threads but suggesting law breaking isn't useful now. And if you post such - duh - guess who reads it and figures out a tighter law and who to come for?
