I am a very new reloader using a Redding T-7 turret press with their automatic primer feed system. When Redding ships the primer system, it comes set up for large primers and with the parts to change it for small primers. My first couple of times reloading was for .45 ACP and the primer feed system worked fine. Yesterday I wanted to reload several hundred rounds of 9mm so I converted the primer system for small primers. The primers fed smoothly for about two hundred rounds before the movement of the primer cup assembly became rough. Soon the cup assembly stopped picking up primers and they started bunching up at the bottom of the primer tube and flipping over. I took the whole system apart and gave it a good cleaning but it didn't help. I took it apart a couple more times trying to find the issue but everything seemed fine. It was early evening and I was tired and very frustrated so I decided to stop until I could do some internet research. This morning I found a very old thread on another forum (handloading.com I think) where a guy had the same issue and found that the primer cup was too high. The top of the cup is supposed to be level with the detent pin that drops the primer from the tube. Before heading for the shop to check mine, I sent an email to Redding describing the problem and asking for help. Almost immediately after determining that I had the same issue with the primer cup, Scott at Redding called and confirmed what I had found. I'm pretty sure I didn't tighten up a set screw in the cup assembly. I'm always amazed at the info that can be found on the internet. I'm also impressed with Redding's prompt and friendly response. I know this is long and I'm sure you seasoned reloaders wouldn't have struggled with this issue, but I thought I would post my experience anyway.
