I bought my 7.5 y/o son a Daisy Red Ryder, like I had 35 years or so ago. He found it under the Tree this AM. He loves it, shoots it well (with shooting goggles of course). Then, while I was looking at this classic American X-Mass gift, there it was stamped in the metal.... "MADE IN CHINA". :eek: WFT??????
An all American (or so I thought), airgun company is importing Red Ryder BB guns from China? Is it just me, or does this just stink? Granted, I got it on sale for $29.95 at Dicks Sporting Goods on Black Friday, but even if they cost $100.00, if they were still made in the USA, I would feel better about it. The metal looks good, it shoots as fast and accurate as I remember, but the wood looks sub par, not as nice as my old one. But for me, the "MADE IN CHINA" stamp just kills it. :mad:

Welcome to 2011, it's almost over.

Seriously, aside from automobiles, there is pretty much no manufacturing industry left in the United States. People wanted ever cheaper goods, and increasing wages and taxes left them with two options;

Close up shop, or
Move production overseas

I know how that feels.
I saw a RUGER air rifle last week. It's made in China too.
Ruger lowering itself to put their name on a Chinese product bothers me.

Ruger too? Thats it, I'm buying a time machine and going back to the 1950's. This ain't no fun anymore. What the hell happened?

My Marine son and I went out in the backyard yesterday and shot the crap out of my Red Ryder. Still fun but I'd like to find an older USA made model at some point.

<RANT ON>

Here we go again. Slave labor, human rights violations, they're going to take over, they own us...blah, blah, blah... We used to say the same thing about Japan, except for the slave labor & human rights stuff. Speaking of human rights violations, how many of you have CZ, Yugo SKSes, or XDs in your collection. What about Russian stuff? Seriously, would we really be so up in arms if they didn't have slanted eyes?

Bottom line - get competitive or get out. It's the 21st century. The US screwed up in the manufacturing arena. It's a global economy and we can't compete on commodity products. When Europe's banking system fails, we go into recession. When we go into recession, China also falls into recession.

And yes, Red Ryders and a host of other gun parts are made in China. I bet a good percentage of gun parts and accessories in our closets are from China or not made in the US. </RANT>

My post had nothing to do with race. Had the Red Ryder said "Made in Russia", or "Made in England", I would still be burned. Red Ryder, X-Mass, made in the USA...???? If you don't get it, fine, but don't bring race into this. Time to close this thread!

I'm a numbers kinda guy. Yup, we import the most from China but Canada and Mexico is a close 2nd and 3rd. BTW, China didn't become number 1 with our imports until 2007. When was the last time you heard someone venting about the folks up North importing too much stuff into our country?

I definitely get it.

Once again, it is a global economy. We have guns coming into this country from all parts of the globe, not just China. I can assure you that it isn't China who is importing the biggest number of firearms into this country.
