Red dot sights on a pistol

I am thinking about putting a red dot sight on one of my pistols, either my Walther PPQ (9mm) or my Sig 320 (45acp). I am assuming I have to have some gunsmith work done to the slide in order to do this. I though I saw somewhere that, for some guns (glock 19, I think), you can buy a 3rd party slide that is ready to have a red dot sight put on it without any work needing to be done. Are there any guns that are available that a slide that is red dot ready out of the box, if so, maybe the answer is to buy another gun.

Back to my original question, though, what preparation needs to be done to either of these guns to make them receptive to a red dot sight.

I am only thinking about this, I haven't decided yet.

I don't know of any off hand for the guns listed but there are mounts avalible for some guns that replace the rear sight and mount a red dot without any machine work needed. Glock, Smith & Wesson and Walther to name a few brands that sell guns ready to mount a red dot on.

There are a number of mounts for joint sights that don't require any modification to pistols and revolvers to mount them.

Slide the adapter in the factory dove tail and mount the optic.

They list one for centerfire Sig pistols here.

Not sure if you're interested in getting something completely new but I saw a SIG 226 with one of SIG's red dots already mounted on the slide. But it would require you to purchase a whole new set up.

The funny thing is, the sights shown in the photos above to me aren't "red dot" sights, they're "reflex" or "holographic" sights. I guess I'm old-fashioned (actually, there's no guesswork involved in that) because to me a "red dot" sight is something like this:
