I have a S&W 45 M&P pistol.... Anybody think its worth it to get a red dot sight for it? If anybody has any links to sites with good prices? Bring it on!

They are Ok for target shooting, I have two guns with them on and they :)work good. But wouldn't want to use them for HD:(

You are talking about this as a range gun, right? If so, I guess it could work out for you. But, as someone said above, there are dozens of better options for a home defense setup.

Are we talking about an internal red dot sight or something like a CTC laser grip? After getting my CTC laser grip for my 9c, I don't ever want another SD/HD handgun not to have one

The small reflex sights like the Docter are very nice. They tend to the pricey side. A number of manufacturers produce them. I have two JPoint reflex sights on Bullseye guns. Another gun has a Truglo. Burris makes the "Fastfire"; I have not used that one. Trijicon makes one. Pride Fowler is another. All of these are over $200. At one-half ounce, they don't add much to your gun.
Avoid the NcStar - I tried two of them, just to see and both broke within a few shots.
For general work, though, a tube type may be a better buy even if they weigh more. I have used and still have the Tasco PDP2 (a couple of them).

For a range gun, a dot sight is OK. For defense, you might want to rethink it.

The only advantage of a dot sight on a HD gun is for illumination of the aiming point--which can be accomplished by using night sights. Now, if you still want to go for it, the best pistol dot sight on the market is the Ultra-Dot. Yes, they're a bit pricey--over $100.00. But, they're durable--I have Ultra-Dots mounted on my competition guns, including my wadcutter gun--it's a slide mount, meaning that when the slide cycles, it cycles, too. So far, about 2000 rounds through the gun, with the scope mounted--no problems, still dead-on zeroed, too.

Get the Crimson Trace laser grips. Just pick up the gun and take a normal grip, the laser is activated and where the laser makes that little red dot is where your bullet will impact. ;) No need to fool around aligning sights in a high stress self defense situation. Just keep your eyes on your threat and put that red dot on him. :D
