Red Dot rear-sight plates

Does anyone have any experience mounting an RMR or similar using a mounting plate that replaces the factory rear sight? Looks like it's dovetailed and just slides into the existing notch. They go for about $80 from what I've seen.

I've run an RMR on a slide that was pre-cut for it, using a mounting plate that screwed into the slide at multiple points -- then the RMR screwed onto that. And my P-07 was custom milled directly for an RMR.

Wondering if the rear-sight option means it's easy to get an RMR on many more models, or if there's a flaw in it (like drifting, coming out, constantly losing zero, etc.) that makes it too good to be true?

From photos it looks like it adds about 1/4" in height overall, but otherwise looks unobtrusive.

Something like this: http://www.berettausa.com/en-us/apx-rmr-mount-apx-optic-mount/ag-55/

(I saw and handled an APX Compact last night -- kinda liked it! But I'm so sold on red dots, I'm not sure I could ever go back) :)

I have a couple of pistols with red dot sights mounted on bridge mounts. My shooting is more accurate with them (I'm 80 years old). I've been considering the mounting plates for some of my pistols that don't have provision for mounting a bridge. One of my concerns is gas blow back on the front , or rear face of the red dot sight. My STI Match Master with a bridge mounted red dot sight that sits forward of the ejection port gets some gas deposits. Not a lot, cleaning the rear face of the sight hasn't seemed to mar the finish. Yet. Has anyone had experience with this; and can comment.

I have a dovetail adapter mount on a CZ75. Works great with no polluting of the sight. The one glitch with the one I have is that the forward corners of the plate are cut square and are very rough on the thumb when cocking the slide. I removed mine and belt sanded a radius on the corners. Much better.

I mounted two FastFires on Ruger 22/45 pistols using the rear sight dovetail mounts. I was concerned about getting the base centered but turned out not that difficult.

Had a Burris Fastfire III mounted in the dovetail of a Mark II and a Glock 19. Worked well, but sits slightly higher like you said, but no trouble with wandering zero.
