I've got a maverick 88 and the only thing I use it for is clay shooting VERY occasionally (i've got to go out to my friends house, because its too loud to be fired at my house) and I'm interested in mounting one of those bsa 30mm red dot scopes on it. I like the idea of having just the dot and I really dont like the bead. Does anyone have any experience w/ these. Reliability really doesn't matter, i'm lucky to shoot my SG once a month. Inexpensive red dots, like the BSA, are an attractive option but you will probably find that their limitations make them less than satisfactory sights.
The BSA's have too much parallax and you MUST line up your eye in precisely the same place each time to get satisfactory accuracy. I will accept that accuracy is less important with a shotgun but I have always felt that the sights need to be dependable and I don't think these make the grade.
I use an M-68 AimPoint on my flat-top AR and it's great. No parallax or at least so little that its not apparent. As long as the red dot is on the target, your shot will hit it and the position of your eye to the sight or the position of the dot in the field of view make no difference whatsoever.
I'd recommend against any cheap red dot and I'd bet that, if you buy one, you will soon replace it with a decent one. Save your money.

I'm willing to bet that the aimpoint sight costs more than my shotgun (over 140.00). Also I have no job (i'm 14) and if i did have the cash to buy one of those sights i would buy a .22 WMR bolt action that I could shoot whenever. If the M-68 is what i think it is, then it probably isn't worth that much money considering the tiny amount of use my boomstick gets.

I have one of those cheap BSA red dots that I got for free. It's mounted on my Marlin Camp 45. Even with the sun shade mounted and the brightness turned up all the way, the dot washes out in bright light. Also, I seriously doubt it would handle 12 gauge recoil for ver long.
