Red Dot adjustment

I have an S&W 69 with a Burris Fast Fire 3. I have run out of adjustment and I'm still a couple inches off. Also, it will not co-witness with my factory front post, but that's not as big of a concern. Any thoughts?

I'm using the Allchin mini-sts mount.

I don't think you will find a lot of optical sights that are designed for a 7 yard zero.

I'd forget about "co-witnessing" and just use the red dot sights, which are probably dead on at normal distances.
The two shots are only about an inch apart anyway.

Also try some different loads to change the POI

Check your mount and make sure its right, then you can take some shim stock and bend it the right shape and shim the left front corner of the sight. that should give you a bit more adjustment.

Snyper is spot on. I have red dots on most of my guns and have used them for over twenty-five years. I can't add anything to his comments. Shimming for seven yards is a waste of time and effort.

Red dot sights were originally adopted by the fast shootin' crowd.
Large targets and speed are the norm there.
They have become popular for other types of shooting, but not always having their limitations.

You could shim the rear of the mount.

Have you ever seen a scope shim? They are stamped out of very thin stock, so it isn't a permanent change. Cut it with scissors to fit the area under the rear of the mount, and reassemble.

I'd probably try 50 feet first.

You can make a shim out of anything except paper. Paper gets wet and disintegrates. Use plastic off of a bubble pack product or cut some aluminum from a pop can to make a shim. You can buy shim stock but it's about as easy to make it yourself. Again, for shooting at seven yards it's not really accomplishing anything....at least not for defensive purposes.

Thanks all. I appreciate the responses. I think I saw that beer cans can make good shims at about 0.005" thick.

I also may try moving back to 50 yds first and see where I end up. I was already at the shorter pistol range bay that day and thought I would start sighting it in. I do plan to move it back to 50yds or so as I plan to use this for hunting.
