I hope you guys don't mind me stopping by to give myself a little shameless plug and let you know about a heads-up article that I just published on my site at http://www.defensereview.com regarding Arms Tech's New Recon Rifle. I just figured the crowd here would enjoy it. If you do stop by to read it, please let me know what you think about it(all I ask is that you keep the criticism constructive). The article is based on Peter Kokalis' article in the latest issue of SAR. Hopefully, DefenseReview.com will be able to obtain one of these Recon Rifles for testing sometime in the not-too-distant future.

By the way, if you like what you see on the site, please don't be afraid to create an account(it's free), so we have your email on our system. That way, when we send an update to our members, you'll get the info. Thanks much, and I hope you enjoy the piece.

Its a great site to find out whats new!

I like the article on the new assault rifle from FN.

Looks like something the U.S. military could use.

Associated Links?

viper, I enjoyed the articles on your site.

Any chance of associated links that document the issues that Arms Tech's New Recon Rifle is designed to solve? I confess I had never heard there was a problem. If you had source links for such issues, you'd be a portal to them.

I would have liked to see the rifle in question, and a detail shot of the duckbill handgrip and the gas system. Sure it sounds interesting, but I'd like to see it.

I'm sort of confused.. the (so-called) failing of the 223 in the M4 is due to the short barrel bleeding off velocity.. so I don't see how this rifle makes any difference. The twist rate changes stability of the longer cartridge, the powder charge and its efficient burn of the powder creates velocity.

Post it up when there is a pic of this thing.. I'm still curious to see it.

The velocity issue is not the main problem. Reliability is. I'll try to find some info about it on the web. I will also endeavor to obtain photos of the Recon Rifle and put them up on my site to go with the story. I just wanted to give everybody an immediate heads-up.

All of my sources on the M4 carbine's problems are personal(and confidential) sources. I can tell you the kind of people they are. One is a very well known and respected small arms evaluator, two are important gun designers, and the rest are people in special operations. I'm sorry to be sort of cryptic, but those whom I've discussed the M4 with might get mad at me and stop talking to me if I quoted them.

I would not state that there is a problem with the M4 if I did not have it from EXTREMELY knowledgable and reliable professionals. They are all appreciated contacts of mine.

Again, if you feel my site would be a valuable resource for you guys keeping on top of things, so to speak, please sign up with us. We could use more high quality members, like those at TFL.

Just had an interesting conversation with the owner of Arms Tech. Turns out that they make a lot of very interesting things at that company, including a takedown .308 built on a Remington 700 that will shoot more than 10 rounds into an area the size of a quarter at 100 yards. The rifle can do this with the operator taking the rifle down and putting it back together between shots!
<p>
Anyway, I should be able to get photos of the various rifles that they make, including the Recon Rifle 5.56.
