Recommendations-self defense carry

On behalf of friend who's thinking a .380 with a "proper" load is ok for wife.
I'm inclined to recommend a min. of 9mm or .38 Special- simple wheel gun is easier to operate and less "involved".
Respectfully request any comments to the above as well as brands/models

The idea that women need the "simplicity" of a revolver is silly. There is no reason that women can't learn to operate a pistol, and, as Pax more eloquently and thoroughly discusses, hand strength can be a greater limiting factor with double action revolvers than with pistols.

Women also have different concealment needs, and some of the very small .380s are worthy of consideration. The .380 doesn't hit as hard as 9 mm, .40, or .45, but it is nothing to sneeze at. Pistols like the LCP and the Sig P238 are popular with women for good reasons.

I introduced my wife, two grown daughters, and several of their friends to shooting, I can tell you that every one of them prefers semis to revolvers, and all of them operate them very competently.
