Recommendations for Springfield 1861 Type Rifle

I'm looking for a two different 1861 Springfield type musket rifles. I would like a good, accurate one for shooting and one less expensive for hanging on a wall. The wall rifle doesn't have to be a good shooter, but look nice and look authentic. Cheaper, as well (this one won't ever be fired - it's just for decoration).

I've read that Pedersoli makes nice 1861 copies - are there any particular ones that are better than others?

What about the wall hanger? Any recommendations on that one?

By the way, I'm also looking for a Civil War pistol/revolver from the same time period as when the 1861 would have been used in the Civil War to hang on the wall. Any recommendations for that would be appreciated, too.

Thanks!

Pedersoli, Armsport, Euroarms all make decent copies of the Springfield and Enfields. I have an Armsport Enfield and it's very accurate with home cast minies.

As for pistols a steel frame 1851 Navy in .36 or a steel frame 60 Colt or a 58 Remington with a steel frame. Brass wasn't used on any of these. Or if you want a Confederate version the Leech and Rigdon .36 or Griswold and Gunnison .36 would be good.

I'd attend a N-SSA shoot and see what I could pick up used. Ditto for the pistol. Used guns can be cheaper unless they have been heavily modified (modern markings removed, replicas of old markings stamped, some stock reshaping where necessary and in the case of the Enfield, barrel bands replaced with older style bands).

Best bet on a wall hanger is a used one from gunbroker or one of the other auction sites. A new 61 Springfield from Cabela's is 749.99.

buy a shooter and hang it on the wall when you ain't shooting it

I thought of that, but don't want to leave a nearly $1,000 rifle on the wall where it would be easy to grab in the event of a burglary.
