Recommendations for good ranges and gun stores in Northern Virginia?

I've just recently started to get back into shooting after an 8 year hiatus. The last time I was actively shooting was before I moved to Northern Virginia, so I'm starting over in finding both places to buy guns and places to shoot guns. I recently found this forum, and any recommendations fas for good gun stores and ranges near Dulles, VA would be much appreciated.

Around Dulles you have Blueridge Arsenal in Chantilly,Silver Eagle in Ashburn
the NRA range in Fairfax & Sharpshooters in Lorton!

For stores with no range theres Guns&Ammo Warehouse,Va.Arms, and Hatfields all in Manassas to name a few.

The Virginia Arms Company in Manassas. Its my go to for any firearms need. Besides having everything you need at competitive prices, they also have four seasons quality service. Even if I find what I'm looking for at a better price else where, I'll still buy from them simply for the piece of mind.

All those listed are good indoor ranges. If you're looking for an outdoor range (for shotgun or rifle), check into the Izaak Walton league clubs. There's one in Manassas and one in Stafford (down near Quantico). I keep meaning to check them out and will join one, probably around the first of the year. I just haven't gotten around to it yet.

It's a little far afield but there's also Clark Brothers beyond Warrenton. They have a rifle range (pistols, too) but you have to use their ammo.

The Izaak Walton in Stafford is pretty nice. Rifle range is a little short. IIRC it only goes out to 150 yards. Pretty laid back feel to it but they do not allow guests anymore because too many members abused it I guess. You have to bring your own targets IIRC.

Clarks Bros is OK but as stated you have to use their ammo. The range is free but if you are going to do any real shooting there it becomes expensive.

Stafford Izaak Walton League rifle range is 100 yds. There's an indoor pistol range in Stafford called "the range" also.

mc1911, I bought my S&W 40 from you guys...nice store and great service

nova armament...got my Spikes Tactical from them...good guys

silver eagle....that place is like a country club

va arms...lots o guns...quality service

Pturner67,We appreciate the compliment!! I think we have a very good group of people! I have been to several of the other places you mentioned & would agree with your opinions as well.

It's nice to see some positive comments for a change regarding LGS'S!!

Places to shoot in NoVA

mc1911: I've been shooting at Sharpshooters (and its predecessor, Gilbert's) for many years. With the new improvements, and friendly staff, it's even better than before. Thank you, and pass the word to your colleagues! I also shoot at the Izaak Walton range, and enjoy both the shooting and the friendly fellow shooters there. I don't know of any nearby training ranges for fire&movement practice. Anybody with suggestions?

Sharpshooters, formerly Gilberts, in Lorton will allow full auto (or used to) and rapid fire shooting but Clark Brothers will not. Don't know about other ranges but that's something to consider. Sharpshooters does have certain ammunition restrictions but you can use your own ammo. I seem to recall that .30 Carbine isn't allowed and that might be the only limitation.

After nearly 16 years in Northern VA (the last 10 living in Manassas), I pretty much do all of my gunshop-related biz with VA Arms and Guns & Ammo Warehouse. Loudoun Guns in Leesburg is ok, but too far for me. Hatfield's new place is supposed to be pretty decent, but I haven't visited them yet. They did well by me with an insurance-related gunsmithing issue so I have no qualms about doing business with them.

As for ranges, I exclusively shoot at the NRA HQ range and the Izaak Walton range in Centreville (helps that I used to drive past the former on the way home and currently drive past the latter).
