Recommendations for a RDIAS host

I just put in the paperwork for my newly acquired steel RDIAS.

I am going to build a host, and I would prefer a full size rifle, not a carbine. I want to build this from scratch, with a stripped receiver with a low shelf.

What do you guys recommend for the lower and the upper build?

I've never built a gun before, semi or F/A capable. This is a first time project.

I'm assuming you put a good amount of $$ for the DIAS, so you should also invest in good receivers.

Maybe a Noveske or Mega Lower receiver (possibly billet), and Vltor/BCM/Mega Upper or anything along those lines. I would highly suggest a matching set for best fit.

Have fun with your build!

Parting question: what caliber do you intend to use?

I was thinking Noveske, too. I've never heard of Mega, but I will look into them. Thanks for the recommendation.

So many options. That's part of the fun of the RDIAS over the registered receiver. I kind of don't know where to start.

I intend to use .223. I think 9mm in a full size AR doesn't look right, from my aesthetic opinion. I don't think a RDIAS will work in a .308 receiver, but I could be wrong.

I think the danger in this project is that the gun ends up looking so 'tacticool' that it looks rediculous...for example...

Sometimes, understated simplicity is beauty.

Any quality lower with a low shelf will work. There are tons of good options, including some good ambi lower options.

One that might be funny to build is a Aero Precision "Pew Pew" lower.

And it will only be as "tacticool" as you want it to be, but dont skip function for form.

Good luck with the build.

One of my RDIASes came in today. I felt like a kid in a toy store. I am somewhat surprised by how small and light they are. Now begins the long long wait.

Props to the seller's dealer. A very nice and professional gentleman.

Amazing to think that is the piece that is such a big fuss. All that for a 1 inch piece of metal. Couldn't have taken more than a couple hours of machining to make

I hear that the timing is complicated, hard to get right, but I saw a guide on how to do it.

They're awesome because you can turn a modern AR into a legal MG. I'm gonna drop this sear into a full size, 20 inch Noveske build and shoot the Noveske until it lights on fire. I've always wanted a full size AR. The carbine thing is a fad that all the young 'uns are doin'.

I have a 20" AR-15 in my collection.

I wanted a rifle that resembled an M16A2.

It has the skinny A2 barrel under the handguards, so it is actually quite lightweight! It's a lot of fun to shoot with open sights, but honestly, it doesn't get shot very often.
