Recommendation for combo shotgun

I'm looking for recommendations for a 12ga shotgun. Here's a list of what I think I need/want:

-combo gun that comes with a rifled slug barrel and a smoothbore with changable choke tubes

-rifle sights or scope mount for the slug barrel, which one? Why?

-perfer pump over auto for cost reasons.

-Would consider a smooth bore or slug gun and buying the other barrel if thats a better option.

-I'd like to keep the cost below $500 for gun and extra barrel. I figure on replacing the scope that would come with a slug barrel but thats another deal all togther.

I'll be using this for hog hunting(rifled barrel) and coyotes(smooth bore). Ranges would be in the area of 30-150 yards. I'm limited to a shotgun in some areas I'd like to hunt. So rifles are out of the question. I've understand Mossberg has combo shotguns as well as Weatherby. Of coarse there is Remington too, are there others. I know sometimes this can turn into a ford chevy kinda deal so try to keep it clean for a newbie to the shotgun deal. I'd appreciate your recommendation.
 
Either a Mossberg 500 combo or the Remington 870 equivalent will be best.

Which one? Get the one that FEELS best....
 
Absolutely Mossberg 500, they have SWEET Combos, and there's all sorts of permutations, from simple short and longs to tactical and birds to rifled slug etc.

All kinds of deals here, tactical turkeys and road blockers and all the ideas in between!

rip, how is that his answer? He asked about an AFFORDABLE combo not a single barrel cheap import gun... He wants a multi barrel combo as stated in the OP... And to buy a second barrel would take this cheap import (with a not so cheap price) above what he called a preferred price point of $500...

The Mossberg 52264 Field/deer combo looks like it fits the bill. Maybe even a55105 and buy a smoothbore barrel. Although I'd like to look at more options. What about Remington's 870 express?

You are a smart man and a user. You have a bunch of intelligent forum members doing all your research for you. Shame on you. :)

Why not do your own research on the 870? All it takes in some internet searches to include going to the Remington web site. It might also give you a lot of additional answers to questions you have not thought of or posted.

Just as another thought, have you given consideration to a used combo gun? I have over the last year bought thee great shotguns which would meet your requirement and they include the 870 and the 500. They are both good guns and the Remington still had the hang tag on it.

Although, I have to admitt the responses you are receiving are educating many others as it performs your research endeavor.
 
Been looking on line. Stopped into Dicks sporting goods, Academy, wal-mart and a couple local gunstores too. I figured I needed to be a little more educated when I went in the stores. Seems like can't go wrong with an 870 or a Mossberg 500 was the answer everywhere. When the barrels and chokes come into play, it seems like everyone's knowledge seems to dry up.

I'd like to get sometype of camo pattern. I'm finding it hard to get a gun and then a matching barrel with the same type of pattern on it.
 
As you may well know, some of the Mossberg 500s have fixed choke barrels; at least the field/security combo offered at Big 5 Sportingh Goods, a California chain.
 
I figured out that it needs to have ACS(accu-choke-system) in the barrel description. The 52264 is looking good.

Here's a couple more questions.

- Are Mossberg rifled slug barrels drilled and tapped for their intergal scope base?

-Can you remove the rifled sight and install a cantilever type scope mount on them?
 
I think you are limited to a rifled barrel with sights or a cantilever barrel...

I am not positive on the above. But I am positive the receivers are all drilled/tapped for scope bases if you wish to scope a gun with rifle sight equipped barrel or even for smooth bore such as for turkey huntin'.

Thanks hogdog, I thought that was the case since a quick check didn't revel any cantilever scope mounts on Midwayusa. No problem I don't have a problem shooting open sights.
 
Remington would be my choice. never been much of a Mossberg fan.
An 870 combo with a 28" VR barrel and a cantilever scope barrel would be my choice for hunting.
A scope will give you a good bit more precision in the field under adverse lighting.
The 28" VR barrel with remchokes will handle everything else.
 
Have a little more info on the remington 870 combo's? I've liked the 870's I've looked at over the Mossbergs that I've looked at so far. However all have been used ones. Although I'll most likely go with a new one unless I jhappen to find something used that in really great shaep and fits everything I'm looking for.
