Recommend a holster for Glock 22

About a year ago I started carrying a Glock 22 concealed full time. Since then I've bought a number of holsters for it, the common theme being cheap. They all suck. I've lost about 40lbs since I started carrying, and it's not quite as easy for me to hide such a big gun anymore. I can tell people are noticing.

I need something really thin, that doesn't add extra bulk. I really love the idea of those clips that screw right to the end plate, but I like to carry my gun chambered and ready to fire and that doesn't cover the trigger. Currently I'm using a cheap soft sided IWB holster, but it's really thick, adds a lot of bulk. I tried a (cheap) kydex holster from ebay, I liked how thin it was, but the belt clip was terrible, and it didn't fit the gun very well.

So, I suppose I need to spend a few more bucks on a holster. What's a good concealed holster for a G22 that doesn't add much bulk and has a nice belt clip?

Tagua holsters builds a small double clip hybrid for about $45 for the 17/22, that's the cheapest decent holster I can think of. Also look up Flashbang holsters web site and look at their prohibition series " The Capone" it is a good small scale hybrid and there is always Alien Gear, and SHTF holsters

I haven't found anything more comfortable that the "hybrid" leather/polypropolene and kydex holsters.
Crossbreed is the first I tried and I am really happy with their products, but there are a dozen or more making the same thing now. Aliengearholster.com makes one that should be entirely machine washable. If I were to try another brand tht is what I would try.

Retention is about the only complaint I ever hear.

If you want to buy one holster for the rest of your life, get a Crossbreed! That's what I carried mine in year round and I never even print wearing that holster and pistol!

Thanks, I'll take a look at some of those. Now that I've been trying to hide the glock I realize I need to be much more suspicious of people who wear coats in warm weather! ;)

While we're talking about it, what do you think about this holster for the same gun?

It wouldn't be for every day use but it would be nice to be able to carry while wearing gym shorts. I'm worried because it seems cheap...

Welcome to TFL!

If you've lost 40 lbs., then your pants should be a bit looser. Now that the pants are a bit looser, you should be able to squeeze an IWB in there. Another vote for the Crossbreed Supertuck. I've got one for my G19 and it gets lots and lots of wear. Very comfortable and very well concealed. I normally wear mine under a jacket, but when I do tuck my shirt in over the pistol, my pistol is concealed just fine.

There are a number of very similar, leather & kydex hybrid holsters. I have a CBST and a Theis, both in horsehide, and like them very much.

AlienGear: http://www.crossbreedholsters.com/
BladeTech: http://www.blade-tech.com/

The list goes on and on, and I'll be happy to provide more names if you'd like. I've bookmarked a bunch of them. However, I don't want to clog up your thread with a list of links.

As for the Thunderwear that you linked . . . . Well, let's just say that I try not to point guns where he's got his pointed.

hybrid

another vote for hybrid. Any kind, however I believe leather for the backing provides the best mix between rigidity and a soft textured surface. I have a Theis. A benefit is that due to the limited flexibility of the leather backing I have used my holster made for an M&P compact to also fit a Glock and Kahr on occasion although the "click" when the gun in place is less defined. but it works because retention for mine comes mostly from an indentation made for the trigger guard.

Have you considered appendix (AIWB) carry? After about 38 years of carrying IWB at 4:00 or so, I switched to AWIB a little over a year or so ago, and wish now Id done it a lot sooner. It very comfortable, extremely concealable, extremely quick to get your gun into action, and with less "telling", and its very easily defended. Whats not to like?

I normally carry a 17, and can easily hide it under an untucked tee or polo shirt. Ive carried fat and skinny (Ive lost 50# since late January), and its worked well either way, and inbetween.

Ive always been partial to Blade Tech kydex holsters, and now use one of their "Klipt Ambi" holsters in the appendix position. Reasonably priced (around $50), and well made. This version is different than their lesser priced "Klipt", with the clip in the middle of the holster. Its made to be ambidextrous, and has the clip towards the one side, as opposed to the middle, which draws the gun into the body better. It also is adjustable for ride height, and I find its easier to get a good grip with over the other model.

Ive also used a Smart Carry (Thunderwears competitor) for over 10 years now, and will never be without one again. They are THE most versatile holsters I have used, hands down. When worn properly, they do not point at your junk, or really any other part of your body, or any more so than any other holster, and the gun is easily and quickly accessed, even from a seated position. You can wear a pair of shorts, and nothing else, and easily and comfortable carry a fairly large gun, all day. I started out with one for my Seecamps, and now use one for my Glock 26, and have been thinking of trying one of my 19's in one. For a NPE holster, there is nothing to beat them.

The only thing I will say to watch is, Ive seen a number of "cheap" and poorly made copies of these type holsters at gun shows and on EBay. I would stay away from them like the plague, as they are NOT made anything like the Smart Carry holsters . While Ive never used one, I believe the Thunderwear holsters are in the same class more or less as the Smart Carry's.

The Smart Carry's are very well made, are waterproof/impervious to sweat on the backside, and thick enough to protect the gun/trigger from poking issues. Of all the holsters Ive used over the years, any gun Ive carried in a Smart Carry, has been the cleanest, and dust bunny free gun (even after weeks of carrying), and thats with working in a very dusty, dirty environment daily. I challenge anyone to find a holster that can do better in that respect.

For Glock... PHLster Access or Skeleton are the best ones. I've used one for several years now. They fit all 9mm, 40, and 357 Glocks. Even the small slided 45's.

Those hybrids are a great choice for your 4 o'clock and 3 o'clock carry positions. I've found with my Glock 21 that I conceal it best at the 1-2 o'clock appendix area carry.

I've had good success (on the 21) with a RDR IWB

For my 19 I really like my Wild Bill Concealment Covert Carry, if I were to get a 17/22 I would very likely use one of those daily. I have to wear dress shirts at work daily, and the tuckable on my Will Bill works really well for my Glock 19.

If you are going with a hybrid any of these would work. Crossbred Supertuck,Foxx Hybrid or Alien gear. Foxx I would say would probably have the fastest delivery.
You always have Milt Sparks and Nelson makes a decent holster but not cheap.

I've been through a lot of holsters and I found a winner finally that I use religiously now. They're called black rhino concealment. They will custom make your holster to fit your gun and your body type. I wish I knew how to attach pictures. They have all different finishes. I chose black carbon fiber.
