i want to put a holographic red dot sight on one of my ARs, but i dont wanna break the bank doing it.

Any recommendations for a good red dot under $200?

I'd only consider opinions from people that have used several different brands of dots rather than accepting suggestions from those that only have one but "really like it!".

Never know, that $75 dot tucked away in a corner of the store may be the best for you.

Vortex SPARC

I also chose a Vortex SPARC after researching them. I was willing to spend decent money but not to put a dopey red-dot sight on top of my AR that cost as much as the gun -- sorry. I was looking for quality, features and benefits to get the best bang for the buck and decided upon the SPARC. I looked at others and own others including tube and projection flat-screen types.

I like the SPARC. For me it is silly because without glasses all these red dots look like a fuzzy star in the sky you squint at at night.

I just went through the same dilemma.

I tried the burris fastfire II, the Primary Arms & the Bushnell TRS25.

Of the three, I liked the Bushnell best.

The Fastfire II is a fine optic but the price tag is almost $200.

The Primary Arms is $75 but the adjustment knobs are very stiff and the red dot is somewhat blurry.
It also seems to be a direct ripoff of the Bushnell TRS25 (made in China)

The TRS25 is very well made. The adjustment knobs click into every adjustment unlike the Primary Arms which doesn't.
It holds zero perfectly. I've used it with .223,7.62x39 & .308 Win.
It only costs $89 and it's well worth it.

I bought it from optics planet. (they shipped it for free)

More To The Point...

...I would have loved an Elcan but was looking at expensive Eotech's, Trijicons and Aimpoints plus a multiplier. Ultimately went with the Vortex SPARC and added a killFlash anti-reflective device.

I'm an iron sight man (LMT A2 sight behind it now). Two and a half bills was palatable and the scope is fine.

I have had a Bushnell TRS-25 for ~ a year now. It is solid, reliable and accurate. I have not had any issues with it staying zeroed. IIRC I paid $80 for it on "closeout" at cabela's.
