Recomendation for a new scope on Savage 30.06?

It is elk season and the old bushnell scope on my Savage is giving up the ghost. I was thinking that maybe I'd look at Simmons, BSA or the new Tasco EFR. I'm looking for a budget scope, with an AO. At least 3X9 or 4X12. Any suggestions, or opinions? Thx, wolfz Az:confused:

I have had very good success with the bushnell banner series. They are in the $70.00 range. For a few more bucks you can find a used leupold. As far as I'm concerned a used leupold is as good as a new one since you can send it back for free repairs at any time. The local Bass Pro Shops store is selling new Leupold vx II for $179.00 The worst scope I ever owned was a BSA. I couldn't keep the BSA zeroed and the adjustments were awful. Replaced it with a bushnell banner and have had zero problems. Good luck, Weagle

Cabela's has Leupold Vari-X II scopes for about $200. My "Loop" is about 30 years old and still going strong.

I have a $99 Simmons 44 Mag which works well; new in 1997, it has survived many miles of travel on rough roads in my 4X4 PU.

I've always figured that the '06 is a reliable killer out to 300 yards. After that the requisite skill level for a really good hit increases. IMO, a 3X9 is plenty good. The AO has never seemed important, and I've had both...

They are having a closeout on Baush & Lomb Elite 3000 series scopes. I picked up 3X9X40 for $139 + shipping. For that price I don't think you'll find a better scope anywhere. I mounted mine on my Tikka .308 Whitetail Hunter and absolutely love it. Very well made and bright. Definately in the same class as a Leupold Vari X II.
They had a B & L Elite in 5X15X50 listed as well. IIRC they were running about $225.
Take Care
