Recoil reducer question?

I have two Winchesters that I am thinking about putting a recoil reducer in.

The first and most important to me is the Win Model 70, it is a 300 win mag. I just pulled the recoil pad and the whole inside of the stock is open except for the foam that is in there. What would be the best route to go with this?

Second is a Win model 94 that is chambered in 444 Marlin. The stock is as some of you will already know, solid. Is it a good idea to have it drilled out or should I just live with it. Its not that bad any way, a light 240 grain hand load is pretty smooth. But I think it will be slightly different when I start loading some hot 270 grain loads for furry pigs.

So what do you all think?

If it's the ones that are wieghted I wouldn't get one unless you want to weigh down your rifle, you can get a gell recoil strap thing pad you strap on your shoulder and they work great. I use one for my rem 700 in 270.

Best of luck

I put one in my Model 70 375 H&H. It works. Back in my skeet shooting days I put them in my sheet guns. Have to watch it on some double barrel shoot guns, I put one in an Ithica SKS. Had to take it out. It reduced the recoil to the point it wouldn't cock the second barrel

The go in the butt stock, once you get the recoil pad back on you can tell its there.

I had a problem with a Cheap Stevens in .300 win mag. The gun had the tuperwear stock that was hollow. I pulled the hockey puck of a recoil pad off, removed the foam insert and filled it with Heavy weight Bondo and put a limbsaver recoil pad on it. To help balance the weight of the back i filled the forehand of the stock as well. I upped the weight 3 pounds the reduced the recoil the that of of a .308.

Not the professional way to take care of the problem but i worked well and i would do it again if a had the opportunity. Hope this helps
