Recoil Pads/New Shooters/Lengths of Pull

Hello all. I have a question I'm hoping one (or more!) of you can answer. I am in the process of looking for a 12ga. for myself and my girlfriend. I am concerned with the felt recoil she will encounter, and have been looking at some recoil reducers. Now, here's the question: I have often read that the addition of a recoil pad will increase the length of pull and that this process can help a smaller statured person. How does this make it easier? From my perspective, the longer the distance from the butt-end of the stock to the trigger, the harder it would be to reach for a smaller person. Obviously I am missing some pertinent fact and that's where you come in! Thanks for any help you can offer.

Somebody has misguided you on length of pull. A short person needs a short length of pull. Typical males (5'9" to 6'3" or thereabouts) can adapt pretty well to a 14-14 1/4" pull. A 5'2" woman needs a gun with something on the order of 12 1/2" pull. This can vary quite a bit with the length of the arms, neck, skinny face, large bust, etc. A woman's gun will generally require an increased pitch on the buttplate.

If you and your girlfriend are close to the same height, you may be able to work with just one gun. Otherwise, you need separate smokepoles.

Adriano you may have misunderstood when they talked about adding a recoil pad. what may help is a different recoil pad that absorbs recoil better you still need the correct length of stock as clemson said even if adding one requires having the buttstock cut down to the right size.
the new sims limbsaver recoil pad claim up to 50% reduction in felt recoil.and should help alot.
