Recoil pad for LOML, son and daughter?

I've purchased a 390 20 ga for LOML/son/daughter to periodically join me at the range for skeet, trap, five stand and perhaps sporting clays. It's one of the older Italian models that has the 14 inch LOP with the one inch spacer, to get down to a 13 inch LOP, which should work better for this crew - LOML is 5 foot 6, son is a bit more, although growing a 4 or so inches a year right now. Daughter is also around the same height.

I'd like to get a recoil shoulder pad that won't add that much to the LOP but will still help them with recoil.

I see my options as 1) add a limbsaver, but that would put LOP back up to around 14 inches 2) for the ladies, the PAST Women's recoil pad, like this one : http://www.amazon.com/Past-360000-W...=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1315833988&sr=1-3 or 3) a removable shoulder pad like this one http://www.amazon.com/Past-350010-F...=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1315833988&sr=1-2

I'd like to go for something like #3, but wonder if it will be increasing LOP too much.

What have others done to keep down LOP yet make the first shooting experience enjoyable?

TIA

Have a good pad,Sims, KickEez, Pachmyer, fitted to a short but appropriate LOP by a smith that knows how to fit a shotgun.

In your shoes, I'd have the stock fitted to your LOML, and let the kids use that for now. When they get done with growing, get them their own fitted shotguns. Not cheap, but the best way for all....

What I've done is ...just have separate guns where I've kept them short ...say 13" ...and a 2nd one at about 13 1/2" ...and then one at
14" ...because it seems like there is always someone coming along where I need that short gun or the medium one ...

If I had to go with only one gun ...I'd use spacers ...and just hit a happy medium where they could both shoot it...and change it as they got older.

The only guns I have that are quick to adapt....with their snap on and off butt pads ..is the Benelli system ...where you can buy 3 pads one at
14 3/8" lop , one at 14" and one at 13 1/2" ...and its a better system / and they have both left and right handed versions ...but it would mean adding a gun like the Benelli Supersport to your arsenal ( and the optional pads are about $ 85 each / so it isn't cheap ).

One possibility, if they share a gun, is to get several slip over pads of different thicknesses. They slip on their pad when they shoot. As they grow get thinner pads. These are somewhat cheaper than the ones my friend, BigJim, suggested.

I see a few guys using these slip on pads ...when we have a big group of younger shooters that come out / scouts, etc ...and they just don't seem to work that well. The collars tend to roll a little / or the recoil pad rolls to the side ....but they might work for you for awhile.

But yes, as my friend zippy points out ...the spacer idea and setting up a gun at a specific length of pull is more expensive...but I still think its a better solution / especially if you can pick up a few older Rem 11-87's or 1100
s or even the older Beretta 390's and just set them up the way you want them.
