Hi folks,
I recently bought a new Browning White Gold Medallion rifle in 300WinMag. I was a little leary of it since I'm somewhat recoil shy. But, ego won out over intelligence and I bought the rifle anyway figuring that if I can overcome the recoil, I can take out anything in the lower 48 states.
The purpose of this post is to tell you about a little something I found that I think is truly amazing!!
It's "The Shooters Friend" by Riecken's. It's a slip on recoil pad that you can buy thru Cabela's for about $12.99. Let me tell you, that's the best thing since sliced bread. It slips right onto the stock, won't harden or get brittle with age, not affected by temperatures, and won't harm the stock. And, it absorbs recoil like my ex-wife used to absorb my paychecks!!! They say it will absorb 70% of recoil (not sure how accurate that is since I don't put a bathroom scale on my shoulder when I shoot), but, the first time I used it, I shot the rifle from the prone position and was amazed. It didn't kick!!!!! Not even a really good shove. It felt much like my 243 I used to have.
One word of caution, it's not that pretty, and it stinks to high heaven!! So it will only be used for sighting in and practicing. But it's a great accessory in my opinion.
Just thought I'd pass it along. (No, I don't work for, or know anybody that does work for, Riecken's)
PS: It should be great for guys that shoot alot of skeet and trap too. I would definately recommend it for teaching women and kids how to shoot.
