Just bought a 50 round box of Speer 124 grain, 9 mm Gold Dots and the box was marked "reclassified, not for law enforcement" What meaneth this?

Thanks,

Reclassified ammo is a nice way to say rejected. It failed to meet specifications, for whatever reasons.

Guy Neil, of Blount, highly recommends against carrying any of the reclassified ammo, as there is no way of knowing why it failed to meet their specs.

Be very cautious when buying any Speer or Federal ammo at a "too good to be true" price. Many dealers peel off the reclassified stickers, too.

I talked to Guy Neil at Speer a couple of years ago about "reclassified" ammo (this was 9mm +P Gold Dot also) and he told me this simply meant that the VELOCITY of the round was not up to spec for the SPECIFIC CONTRACT in question. So, I don't know that I would question whether they were "not recommended" for carrying. Just because the velocity was only 1200 fps, rather than 1250 fps doesn't mean the ammo wasn't good.

Speer also replaced several boxes of .357Sig ammo that suffered from bullet set-back very satisfactorily for me. They are good guys and stand behind their ammo.

I've bought 2 cases of the stuff from Milwall at $8.00/box of 50. Bargain ammo, excellent ammo and have shot about 200 rounds with excellent accuracy and no problems whatsoever. I carry it in my P99 every day.

FWIW.

Clayton, thanks for the heads up....I've got that crap loaded in my P9 :( . I wanted a 20 rd. box for 12 bucks, guy behind counter says..."Here, let me save you some money"......17 bucks for 50 rds.

It figures:mad:
