Reciprocity Explained?

So I'm a NC resident whom just applied for my CCW permit and expect to be issued in in approx. 3 weeks provided they don't find any problems with the fact that I complete the CCW course 5 years ago.

My question now regards reciprocity, what does it mean to me? After my NC permit is issued, can I legally conceal a handgun for my drive from NC to FL? Or does reciprocity mean that I need to get additional permits in SC/GA/FL also?

Not really up to speed on this, my state,(PENN.), only honors carry permits from states that it currently has an agreement with to honor Penn. permits.

Some other states do honor Penn. permits without any reciprocity from Penn.
I would suggest you check-concealed carry on the web. And even this is a pretty broadbased data source. You almost have to go state by state to be sure.

But it does seem that many western and southern states honor out of state CCW's. Texas, Arizona,Georgia,Florida, to name a few, without any type of agreement ... :)

You referenced packing.org in your post - it should have answered all your questions. Another excellent source is Grass Roots North Carolina (www.grnc.org) - an organization you should belong to if you have a NC permit. In SC it's GRSC (www.scfirearms.org) and GA is www.gfodl.org.

Reciprocity is the official agreement between two states to honor the others' permit.
Recognition means that a state honors anothers' permit, even though that state may not do the same.

SC & NC enjoy recognition. Means you are legal here. That said, READ THE SC SECTION IN PACKING.ORG. There are some key differences in the laws i.e., DO NOT OPEN CARRY IN YOUR VEHIVCLE IN SC!
According to the Grass Roots North Carolina site (grnc.org), GA and FL both enjoy reciprocity w/ NC as well. Same advise - check out the laws in each state - there are numerous differences.
I travel the southeast extensively for work. I copied the pertinent extracts of each state I travel in from packing.org and keep them w/ me. This will go a long way in keeping you out of trouble.
