Received a Savage 22 and Remington 12ga Wingmaster from my grandfather - check them out!

My grandfather has been slowly trickling his gun collection into mine and I've recently started receiving some of his favorites/most cherished. I'm very proud to have these, and wanted to share!

He passed on the following:

Savage 22 Cal Boltaction Rifle
Serial: '1019--'
Backstory: This one belonged to his his uncle and has always been one of his favorites to shoot!

I'm not sure how to date this one. Does any know where I can do some research on this gun, or does anyone know when it was made?

Any other info anyone has would be awesome!

Remington Wingmaster 12ga
Serial: 'SO268---'
Info: 28" Ventilated Rib Barrel, Full Choke
Backstory: Not too sure on this one. I know it was one of his favorite shotguns, but I'm not sure of the story.

I know I can contact Remington for the history, and I'll do that tomorrow, but if anyone knows how to check now or if anyone can give me additional info that would be great!

My uncle got all my grandmas guns . They have been sitting never being cleaned in a. Loser for 14 years , [emoji853]

Hi. The Savage should have a model number on it somewhere. Might be a Stevens too. Probably dates from after 1968. Prior to then S/N's were not requires on .22's. A very wild guess though.
Best place for researching 'em is the Savage collector's site. www.savage99.com
There's also hordes of books. One being Savage & Stevens Arms: Collector's History, 5th Edition that runs $23 on Amazon.
Rumour has it that Savage just does not have any info on any of the old stuff they made.
Go here for info on the 870. One is pretty much the same as the next, except that Wingmasters are now their higher end brand. Wasn't always the case. Bought mine in the early 80's and it's stock is not like your's. All current barrels will fit any of 'em with no fuss though.

"...but that's auto..." That's a semi-auto shotgun. Sweet 16's are highly regarded by them with the money.

I did another once over of the Savage and it looks like it's a Savage 'Sporter'. Not sure how I didn't see that before.

As for the 870, I looked it up on the site you linked and they allude to a two character stamp on the left side of the barrel that I can't seem to find. I wonder if he replaced the barrel at some point. It looks to be original, but I can't tell.

As for the Browning, I know it's a semi, but what I didn't know is that this forum has a separate board for shotguns. ;) I overlooked it, so I just threw it into the smi-auto rifle board.
 
I've never owned one, not a fan of 870's (normally down elevator)
but I think the Wingmaster is their top of the line shotgun, usually see them in a field/hunting configuration.

Should have superior fit/finish to cheaper variants.
