FINAL COUNTDOWN HAS BEGUN ON CLINTON GUN BAN-

----- Forwarded message from SnipeUNblue@aol.com -----

FINAL COUNTDOWN HAS BEGUN
ON CLINTON GUN BAN-
Take Nothing For Granted!!!!
With Congress set to come back from its Summer District Work Period on
September 7, only a handful of legislative days remain before the Clinton gun
ban
is due to expire on September 13.

With time running out, two things are certain:

1. The anti-gunners will re-double their efforts to expand and
extend the ban (in fact, next week, the Brady Campaign will once again roll
out
its typical and ongoing dog-and-pony PR show to blame inanimate objects for
the acts of criminals) , and

2. we can not take anything for granted!

We have come too far in the past 10 years not to pull out all the stops in
the next week and a half to ensure that this ban expires as Congress
intended, and becomes nothing more than a sad footnote in America's history.

Therefore, we are once again urging you to keep the heat on your lawmakers
to ensure they know that their voting constituents do not want to see this ban
extended even one second longer than its scheduled demise on September 13.
Once again, please visit NRA-ILA's website -http://www.clintongunban.com/
-to have all the facts about this debate. And even if you've done so before,
please forward this website to others who need to know both the history and
the truth about this issue. Then, as you have been doing, please immediately
contact your U.S. Representative and your U.S. Senators and urge them to
oppose
any legislation seeking to extend the Clinton gun ban.
You can find contact information for your elected officials by using the
"Write Your
Representatives" tool at www.NRAILA.org or you can call your U.S. Senators
at (202) 224-3121, and your U.S. Representative at (202) 225-3121.

Working together in these last few legislative days before September 13, we
can ensure that our mutual and tireless efforts over the past decade pay off
with the abolition of Bill Clinton's repressive gun ban!

The history of the race, and each individual's experience,
are thick with evidence that a truth is not hard to kill
and that a lie told well is immortal.
~ Mark Twain

Freedom had been hunted round the globe; reason was considered as rebellion;
and the slavery of fear had made men afraid to think. But such is the
irresistible nature of truth, that all it asks, and all it wants, is the
liberty of
appearing.
~ Thomas Paine, Rights of Man, 1791 ~

Yep it's already started

Know your enemy. This group was cited in a little "fluff piece" in my local newspaper stating that the gun industry can't wait for the ban to end and implied that they were just waiting to start marketing new "military style" guns once the ban was up. Sure they are. Lying dogs! It's too bad we don't have 20,000 active members, we could all take them up on their free video offer!
Here is the "fluff piece"

Gunmakers Happy Assault Weapons Ban Set To Expire
Gun Companies To Sell Military-Style Weapons

POSTED: 6:54 am EDT September 8, 2004

WASHINGTON -- The Consumer Federation of America said the gun industry is getting set to market military style firearms if the federal ban on such weapons expires as scheduled next Monday.
The consumer group said it checked with sales people, as well as manufacturers' catalogs and Web sites. ArmaLite, a gun manufacturer in Geneseo, Ill., is advertising a "Post-PostBan Rifle Program," offering consumers attachments to convert their firearms to pre-ban configuration.

The 1994 law, signed by President Bill Clinton, banned 19 types of semi-automatic weapons. It included a "sunset" clause that it would automatically expire in 10 years if Congress did not renew it.

President George W. Bush has said he supports the ban, but a number of attempts to extend it in Congress have failed.

The National Rifle Association wants the law to expire.

Here is their Web site info.

CONSUMER FEDERATION OF AMERICA RELEASES NEW VIDEO ON U.S. GUN INDUSTRY
Practically every consumer product made in America is regulated for health and safety--but firearms are not. Guns are the second leading cause of product-related fatal injury in America, just behind cars, yet they are completely exempt from any consumer protection oversight. The gun industry and its lobby, the National Rifle Association, have used money, politics and intimidation to shield their products from consumer safety regulation for decades. Many believe it's time that changed.

Consumer Federation of America (CFA) has released a new 21-minute video, Unregulated, Untested, Unsafe: The U.S. Gun Industry, that focuses solely on the consumer product safety approach. Enclosed is a free copy for your organization.

Since 1960, more than a million people in America have died from gun violence. Every year, guns kill more than 28 thousand Americans--every two years, equivalent to our entire death toll in the Vietnam War. They injure more than 60,000 others. While shocking incidents such as school massacres and sniper sprees grab media attention, the vast majority of gun deaths tell a different story. This video gives an overview of gun violence as a public health issue-stemming from the widespread distribution of an inherently dangerous, and unregulated, consumer product.

Congress has given regulatory authority to federal agencies to assure that virtually every other consumer product in America is safe. Our video reveals what America's gun industry has been able to get away with as the result of its immunity from regulation-from marketing deadly "pocket rockets" to evading the 1994 federal ban on assault weapons.

There is a solution. Unregulated, Untested, Unsafe: The U.S. Gun Industry offers the most comprehensive proposal to reduce gun-related deaths and injuries in America.

Please view the video and consider sharing it with your colleagues, members, and other organizations. Additional copies of the video are available free from CFA. Please contact CFA Firearms Project Director, Susan Peschin, at (202) 939-1017 or email her at speschin@consumerfed.org for more information.

CFA thanks The Joyce Foundation for their generous support of this project.
