Rebluing a gun?

I just fitted a beavertail grip safety to a Colt 1911a1 Government model, I want to match the finish. Any hints on how to go about it, or woudl it be better in the long run to farm it out to someone who does finish work? (any leads for that if so?)

Thanks in advance.

Hielo, is the b'tail in the white or do you mean the area ground off at the rear of the frame? If it's the safety itself you might get close with a cold blue like Brownells Oxpho-Blue but the only way to truly match it would be to have the pistol refinished. If it's just the areas where you ground/filed the ears down then Brownells 44/40 will work fine. Both are available from Brownells www.brownells.com. George

Thanks George, it was teh area that I ground down (then hand filed and lapped...whew!) I took your advice and tried the 44/40 it worked like a charm. You can not tell where the old blue ends and the new blue starts. Looks great.
