Reblued barrel

I had a .44 caliber 6 inch barrel reblued and before the job the inside of the barrel was bright and shiney. After the job the inside of the barrel looks like it has some kind of dirty material inside of it. I tried a Lewis lead remover on it but no luck. I know it must be something it picked up in the blueing tank. I don't know where else it could come from and I don't know what to do about it.Thanks. Doc

Did the gunsmith plug the barrel when bluing? Some don't and the inside of the barrel gets blued. Ordinarily this doesn't matter much, but if there was fouling there already, the bluing salts could interact with it.

I believe the gunsmith didn't plug the barrel but I have no way of knowing for sure. It sounds like that is what happened. It there any way to remove the blueing from the inside of the barrel? Thanks. Doc

kv4v, it probably won't last past a box of ammo. It doesn't cause a problem and using any kind of abrasive to remove it may cause your accuracy to suffer. George
