For all knowledgeable......If I wanted to take a Remington 700 Long action in 30.06 could I rebarrel it with a .308 barrel and have a no worries Long action Remington 700 in .308????

I'm looking to have a rifle built but since most new 700 Remingtons have actions in short they won't fit my needs.

This rifle will be built on a synthetic stock....not sure that makes a difference but....

Thanks for your replies. V/R Outlaw5

Had a Model 70 Winchester in .308 at one time. It was a long action and came from the factory with a spacer in the magazine well that held all the cartridges to the front. This might be a consideration for what you want to do...could be a problem with feeding. However, wanting to seat the bullets out further, I removed the spacer and did not have a problem.

The M24 (Rem 700) is/was a .308 with a long action. I thought I read somewhere that the rounds had to be pushed to the front of the mag or there would be feeding issues.
