Rebarrel or rechamber?

I'm wanting to build a custom 257 WBY mag on a Savage action and I have two choices that I see.

1) rebarrel a 300 win mag that I already have

2) rechamber a 25-06 and swap in a magnum boldface

Is their any particular advantage to either approach other than the possibility of a better barrel from a custom maker vs the factory 25 caliber tube?

I thought the Savage long and magnum actions were the same for older guns? This is a 10 year old 300 win mag, so I'm sure it's long enough for the 257. I'm not as sure for a 25-06, but I'm still operating under the same assumption that Savage only makes two actions: short and long.

I have thought about it some more and discovered something I had overlooked: a factory 25-06 only comes with a 22" barrel. That's hardly the best length to take advantage of the 257.
